♡How long should I wait to stretch a new piercing?
I would recommend a couple months. The range I would recommend would be 3-6 months before you start stretching. Just to provide the piercing to heal and avoid infection and things like that.
♡Should I take out the jewelry when I'm sleeping?
It's all up to you and your personal preference. Some people find it uncomfortable while others are perfectly fine. However, if you just went up a new size I'd recommend you try to sleep with the jewelry in because if you don't, your earlobe may shrink.
♡Should I take out my jewelry in the shower?
Again, that's all personal preference. It's not going to change anything about the piercing if you do or not. However, it does allow a really good opportunity to clean the piercing and your ears. also it provides the chance to increase circulation in your earlobes.
♡Is it okay to skip sizes?
I wouldn't recommend it at all. Skipping sizes can definitely effect the stretching process, your earlobes will thin out quicker and that can cause your ears to snap and break, which would not be good. Also your ears will be aching terribly. So just have patience with the stretching process.
♡How long should I wait in between stretching?
I wait a couple months. So around a 2-3 month period just to allow my ears to become used to the size I'm at currently and to better my chances for an easier process when going up sizes. But, if you're dying to start stretching to a new size I'd say about a month to a month and a 1/2 at a minimal.
♡What is "down sizing ?"
Down sizing is when you go down a size. This allows your earlobes to become thicker to prevent breakage possibility. I'd recommend after you go up 4 sizes, you go down one just to ensure your earlobes are in good condition for your next size.
♡Can I stretch with a spiral?
Yes you can. Stretching with a spiral is actually a lot more better than stretching with a taper because a taper provides unevenness and can cause thinning more quickly and again, breakage.
♡What is "ear cheese" and how do I prevent it?
Ear cheese is the buildup in your earlobes with contact to your plugs which is consisted of dead skin cells and oils in your skin. It's also called ear cheese because if its not taken care of, it will smell like cheese. You can prevent it by cleaning your jewelry and ears DAILY.
♡What jewelry should I buy when first stretching?
Whether your first starting to stretch or have full stretched ears I'd recommend stone, glass, wood, surgical steel.
I wouldn't recommend stainless steel, acrylic, or steel jewelry at all because these products absorb more and aren't exactly beneficial to stretching your ears.
♡Why can't I wear a taper all the time?
Wearing a taper can cause more damage than anything. It's pretty much like going to a shop and having your ears pierced but the piercer leaving the needle in. A taper can cause infection, uncleanliness and can cause extreme sensitivity if you have it in for an extended time period. They're good for initial stretching periods, but not for full time use.
♡What is the difference between gauging, plugging, stretching?
Stretching is the actual process. Gauging refers to the size (14 gauge, 2 gauge, 12 gauge, Ect) however, gauges is commonly referred to by the jewelry.
Plugging refers to the jewelry (so the jewelry can be called gauges or plugs) but "plugging" refers to plugging the jewelry into the earlobes.
♡What size are you currently at/what size are you trying to achieve?
Currently I'm at a 12 gauge (2mm)
I want to stretch up to a double zero
♡Any tips of avoiding infection/cleaning methods?
What I do is I take a small bowl and fill it with hot water and let my plugs soak for about 20 minutes to kill bacteria that is lingering. (Or you could just do this by taking your plugs out in the shower and let the steam accomplish this process) after the 20 minutes of soaking is complete I then empty out the water and put peroxide in the bowl and let that soak for about 10 minutes. Then I finish off by soaking my plugs in warm water and soap to finishing off the sanitizing process and get rid of the peroxide smell. I do this DAILY.
When cleaning your earlobes, just take a small wash cloth and clean with soap and water while taking a shower. Also, you can take a Q-tip and soak the tip in peroxide and clean around your earlobes to kill bacteria.
